One of the most effective means of getting and remaining healthy is to help your body work to heal itself. Essential oils help to accomplish that. In my searches for the best products, I have discovered doTERRA essential oils. Why do I find doTERRA to be superior to other oils and other options?

Nervous Insomnia RX
Sleep chemistry is cyclic and is readily disrupted by events or medical conditions like nervousness, and sleep apnea, which is often associated with obesity. Various essential oils can act as astringents and decongestants that may shrink the mucosal membranes to clear air passages while relaxing the nervous system for a restful sleep.
More on sleep apena and insomnia in the next post.

Essential oils can have specific stimulating or inhibiting effects on the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems of the human body that together form the autonomic nervous system. Certain other oils calm and relax the nervous system. Rose oil also has anticonflict and antianxiety properties. Rose and patchouli oils cause a 30% decrease in sympathetic activity.

Essential oil of rose, for example, decreases adrenal cortisol release, which is a sympathetic response to stress, by greater than 30% (Haze, 2002). In other words, you become greatly relaxed because your body is not excited in a sympathetic manner by reactions to worry and fears that may be a significant contribution to the causes of insomnia.

Hello! My name is Dr. James Geiger. As a physician, I care about my patients and friends, which drives me to always be looking for natural ways to stay healthy and get healthy when poor sleep or illness occurs.

So it has been a busy transition from Thanksgiving into the New Year.
Probably been burning the candle at both ends to speak.
Your body is craving sleep. Need to catch up on your sleep.

What is the best aid to sleep?

Insomnia is an individual experience just as any remedy or treatment by
prescription is an experience on the individual. Testing different essential oils
in different fashions may provide a natural solution to obtain better sleep. At
bedtime less essential aroma is better. A strong concentration of any aroma
can be stimulating, just as loud music played when attempting to go to sleep
can keep you awake. Experiment to find your ideal scent for sleep by using an
oil of choice on a cotton ball placed under the pillow, diffused throughout the
room, diluted in an atomizer of water “spritzed” as a hydrosol on the body, or
massaged on the reflexology points under the big toes.

The following essential oils have been suggested to be safe sleep aids:
bergamot, Lavandula angustifolia, Ravensara aromatica, mandarin, neroli,
sweet orange, Melissa officinalis, sandalwood, roman chamomile, and
valerian.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 8, 2010

Scottsdale, AZ – From the Operating Room to the MGM Grand Hotel

Local Doctor, Author is IN for Dr. Oz Conference Appearance

Local author, Dr. James L. Geiger, is here, there and everywhere these days: the operating room, national television, and now he’s off to visit television’s Dr. Oz at a Las Vegas conference.

Here:

Most days, Dr. Geiger is busy in Arizona operating rooms as a board-certified anesthesiologist. Outside the OR he’s a published author – the oilMD – who recently published a new paperback version of his book, The Sweet Smell of Success, the layperson’s wellness dictionary of nutritional and complementary alternative medicine.

There:

Now he’s OUT of the OR for four days from Feb. 10-13 but definitely IN when Dr. Oz and other celebrities appear at an upcoming VEMMA conference in Las Vegas. Other notable speakers include Dr. Roizen, Dr. Breus, Darren Hardy and the “doctor” of life success himself – Bob Proctor.

The VEMMA conference, held at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino Conference Center is designed to help VEMMA Brand Partners from around the globe – including Dr. Geiger and his wife, Cheryle – who network to share ideas on innovation and business success.

VEMMA appears to be a good match for Dr. Geiger’s expertise in natural wellness techniques and essential oils aromatherapy. According to the VEMMA website, “the performance-drink industry reached almost $2 billion in sales in 2005.”

Everywhere:

On Jan. 6 Dr. Geiger appeared on the national television show, The Balancing Act – America’s only one-hour morning show about women and for women. The show has also featured such notables as Evander Holyfield, Carl Brown, singer Danny Gokey, and reality show host, Jeff Probst.

Dr. Geiger’s updated book focuses more closely on the nutritional aspects of oils and juices and retails for $19.95 US.

For more information on Dr. Geiger, visit www.thesweetsmellofsuccessbook.com and become a Vemma Brand Partner with Dr. Geiger, call 1-877-820-2839, or email jlgeiger@oilmd.com

The second opinion book. Give Wellness a chance.

The Sweet Smell of Success by James Tad Geiger MD

Books on wellness and aromatherapy have been written from many points of view. The Sweet Smell of Success takes a very unique approach to both of these topics. As an acute care anesthesiologist, I believe clinical aromatherapy should be integrated with conventional allopathic Western Medicine in the Wellness Revolution of the twenty-first century.

Aromatherapy with essential oils is one entity of the vast array of holistic specialties comprising nutriogenomic medicine and complementary alternative medicine. Although these specialties and aromatherapy are not appreciated by many physicians and are often misrepresented to the public, there are tremendous advantages to be gained from their diverse applications.

There is a widening health care information gap between health consumers and care providers. The material presented here bridges the gap between laypeople as health care consumers and medically oriented health care providers, with detailed natural healing information based on the art and medically scientific knowledge. It is my impression from working with my patients and their families that many people have an interest in using “natural” ways of healing but have doctors who are uninformed, disinterested, or not accepting of alternative medicine. This text contains current and compelling scientific explanations and references, offering food as medicines alternatives meant to be integrated with all forms of healthcare including traditional medical treatment. Patients can give this book to their doctor to provide another medical doctor’s viewpoint, a second opinion.

This process represents a tremendous shift in thought and action for most people. Awareness and concern for the health of the people of our country and all the nations of the world are increasingly shared by growing numbers of medical and health care workers, professionals, celebrities, and even some politicians. The maldistribution of food worldwide perpetuates starvation and obesity epidemics, affecting more adults and children with each passing day. A generation of premature deaths, whether from obesity or starvation, is a sad and unacceptable result. Awareness of these problems is the critical first step to circumvent the predictable progression of illness, disability, and death due to these malnourished states.

Another major concern for our society is aging. Aging increases the need for essential foods as medicines that function as antioxidants, which the body uses as critical building blocks for the formation of free radical scavengers and the energy required for effective metabolism. Read and get enthused to practice these revealing wellness secrets, acting on exciting healthy choices that are naturally good for you.

Alpha-mangostin, a component of Garcinia mangostana Linn, is a xanthone derivative shown to have antioxidant and anticarcinogen properties. In this study, we first report the antimetastatic effect of alpha-mangostin in the human prostate carcinoma cell line PC-3. The results show that alpha-mangostin exhibited an inhibitory effect on the abilities of adhesion, migration, and invasion by cell-matrix adhesion assay, wound healing assay, and Boyden chamber assay. In the cancer cell metastasis process, matrix degrading proteinases are required. Results from zymography showed that alpha-mangostin treatment could decrease the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), and urokinase-plasminogen activator (u-PA) in a concentration-dependent manner. Moreover, alpha-mangostin also exerted an inhibitory effect on phosphorylation of c-Jun N-terminal kinase 1 and 2 (JNK1/2) and inhibition of activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kappaB), c-Fos, and c-Jun. Furthermore, the treatment of inhibitors specific for JNK (SP600125) to PC-3 cells could result in a reduced expression of MMP-2, MMP-9, and u-PA. These results demonstrated that alpha-mangostin could mediate PC-3 cells metastasis by reduction of MMP-2, MMP-9, and u-PA expression through the suppression of the JNK1/2 signaling pathway and inhibition of NF-kappaB and AP-1 binding activity. These findings proved that alpha-mangostin might be offered further application as an antimetastatic agent.

Get Healthier using your Mobile Smart Phone

Smart phones are evolving rapidly. One day there may well be an specialized application (APS) for everything. Some of the health care oriented APS, include Mobile Phone Click Diagnostics offering a wide variety of consultations services and Airstrip OB which can monitor fetal heart rate and maternal contractions. Major medical concerns can be facilitated, like medication compliance of infectious disease patients with programs like Stop TB. Patients can be given a cell phone, touch speed dial and the SIM mediprogram by CompuTrainer verifies that they took their dose of medication. Diabetics and patients with psychiatric disorders can monitored using multidisciplinary protocols which improve outcomes.

The Department of Public Health in Arizona offers STOMP Stop Smoking over Mobile Phones from Health Phone solutions. STOMP has some great statistics to support the success of the program. STOMP sends smokers trying to quit a series of personalized text messages over 26 weeks. This next-generation service uses text messages based on a clinically-developed program with proven medical efficacy and offers several interactive features. Clinical trials have shown that using STOMP doubled reported quit rates from 13% to 28% after six weeks.

There are many more APS available now which are flashed onto Twitter, Facebook and Friendfeed plus many more to be created, many of which will include video.

Digital Telemedicine Services

Telemedicine has improved health care in underserved areas of the world. The American Telemedicine Association defines the use of telemedicine as the exchange of medical information from one site to another via electronic communications to improve patients’ health status. Telemedicine was first pioneered and adopted by the Department of Defense for ships at sea and later implemented into the Veterans Affairs system and Indian Health Service.

The digital age of medicine offers radically expanding methods of diagnosis and treatment. Digitized signals can be broadcast live so that physicians can remotely monitor intensive care units in other hospitals, worldwide and treat them as one electronic intensive care unit (eICU) or provide daVinci robotic surgery remotely. Critical care specialists and surgeons trained to use computers monitoring vital signs and laboratory values of critically ill patients can make interventions rapidly and remotely. Healthcare in the 21st century is facing challenges digitally head-on.

Stressed Molecular Membranes
The uptake and distribution mechanism of anesthetics is
known (Eger, 1998). The previously accepted theory ascribed to the action of
anesthetics, namely “molecular membrane stress” applied to the bi-lipid layer
of cell membranes (Ueda, 2001), could conceivably be applied to explain some
of the actions of essential oils at the cellular membrane level. A predominantly
accepted theory for the contiguous mechanisms of consciousness and
anesthesia results from the weak quantum interactions of van der Waals and
London forces acting in hydrophobic pockets of proteins that link synaptically
integrated dendrites of brains cells. Many essential oils and many anesthetic
molecules are aliphatic hydrocarbon chains (Hameroff, 2006). Some essential
oils are rich in molecules that are steroidal in structure.
The natural plasticity of the bi-lipid layers of cell walls and organelles
of various body tissues is due in part to the orientation of the hydrophilic
and hydrophobic lipid layers. The cell membranes have abundant embedded
essential sugar-coated glycoprotein receptors for cell-to-cell immunity
communication and gated ligand ionic channels thought to be acted upon by
the various volatile chemicals of the anesthetic gas agents.

Aromatherapy in the 21st Century
Dr. James Geiger, MD is a practicing anesthesiologist and author of The Sweet Smell of Success. He will present a review of the latest research covering hitherto unfamiliar areas of essential oil efficacy:
Efficacy of Essential Oils against the Chagas pathogen.
Inhibition of the inflammatory protein NF-KB by sesqui terpenes.
Treatment of diabetic gangrene with essential oils.
Black Pepper essential oil for stroke patients.
Inhibition of inflammation by essential oils of Ginger, Helichrysum and Frankincense blocking LOX (Lipo oxygenase) and COX (Cyclo oxygenase).
Preventing osteo arthritis.
Essential oils and appetite suppression.

Studies on the antitumor effects of essential oil components have been funded by the NIH and have resulted in a key patent held by the United States.

The fact that essential oil efficacy against tumors is not better known is a consequence of the way health care and pharmaceutical dollars are allocated. Since well known and traditional natural medicines cannot be patented, returns on investment are difficult to monopolize. Funds for research predominantly go to synthetic substances which can be owned exclusively by their manufacturer.

The most pertinent American research of the day proving the anticancer effects of essential oils was presented at the 2000 conference Essential Oils and Cancer (Available in the proceedings of the 4th wholistic aromatherapy conference). The 2009 Conference builds on this basis and presents the most fascinating development of aromatherapy to date: New scientific understanding resulting in healing concepts that do not require the expensive, impersonal and frightening intervention of high-tech medicine. Instead, simple uses of essential oils deliver a maximum of protection against the most dreaded diseases of our time.

Plenary lectures, featuring world-renowned scientists and physicians, are complimented by panel presentations where members of the aromatherapy community share their practical essential oil applications.
